Fresh off recent Billboard chart breakthroughs for 80s hitmakers Air Supply and emerging electronic act Ultraviolet Sound releasing their self titled album last week (April 12), debuting at #27 on the iTunes Album Dance chart, indie label Odds On Records is eager to expand its roster.

Label President Ted Joseph, an industry veteran whose resume includes a 21-year-stint at Warner Bros. Records, says Odds On is actively looking to sign artists, preferably those with strong track records and fan bases that are looking to reinvent themselves.

“We are excited to work on new recording projects with artists that have strong Soundscan and touring histories, and who are open and eager to going the independent label route,” says Joseph. “We provide our artists with a complete range of services, including a state of the art recording studio, national distribution, marketing, radio promotion and PR.”

In 2010, Air Supply (Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock) scored their first Billboard hit in 17 years with “Dance With Me,” the first single from Mumbo Jumbo, their first album in eight years. The single reached #28 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, and their follow-up track “Faith In Love” also hit the Top 30.

Ultraviolet Sound ( Sarah Hudson and Sami D.) toured nonstop for a year and a half, opening for pop stars such as Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Their irresistible, provocative debut “Suck My Kiss” (co-written with veteran tunesmith Desmond Child) was released last September and hit the Top 40 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart.

While many of the top executives Joseph worked with over the years have shifted gears, the multi-faceted behind the scenes force is not only surviving, but thriving in the current environment. After several years as a consultant in the realm of “virtual labels,” the Detroit-bred executive brings his vast wealth of experience to Odds On Records.

In both New York and Los Angeles, Joseph worked in numerous departments at Warner Bros., including marketing, sales, radio promotion and distribution. Over the years, among others, he dealt with pop artists Madonna, Rod Stewart and Prince.

BILLBOARD CHART BREAKTHROUGHS
FOR LEGENDARY HITMAKERS AIR SUPPLY
AND EMERGING ELECTRO DANCE/POP DUO
ULTRAVIOLET SOUND

Who says indie labels can’t play with the big boys?

Odds On Records celebrates its first anniversary with major breakthroughs on the Billboard charts for two dynamic duos that reflect the diversity of its growing roster—famed ‘80s chart toppers Air Supply and emerging electro dance/pop act Ultraviolet Sound.

Earlier this year, Air Supply (Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock) scored their first Billboard chart hit in 17 years with “Dance With Me,” the infectious first single fromMumbo Jumbo, their Odds On debut and first album of original material in eight years. “Dance With Me” reached #28 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, and their follow-up single “Faith In Love” is up to #30 this week, poised to surpass the success of the previous hit.

Ultraviolet Sound (Sarah Hudson and Sami D.) toured nonstop for a year and a half and opened for Lady GaGa, Katy Perry and many other top artists. Their irresistible, provocative debut single “Suck My Kiss” (co-written with veteran tunesmith Desmond Child) was released September 14, debuting on the Billboard Dance/Club Play Songs Chart at #46; it is currently #40 and rising.

Currently shooting a video for “Suck My Kiss,” UVS will be going for pop radio adds in early October.

Odds On Records President Ted Joseph says, “Our early success with two Billboard charted artists is a testament to their great music and the quality of our organization.”

Many of the superstars Air Supply is sharing chart space with weren’t born when the duo scored its enduring hits “Lost In Love,” “Making Love Out of Nothing At All” and“The One That You Love.” Graham Russell was honored this year with a BMI Million-Air Certificate recognizing 3 million performances of the duo’s hit “All Out Of Love.”

UVS has attracted major attention from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, 944 Magazine, Interview Magazine, Las Vegas City Life andarjanwrites.com. UVS’s music has been featured on MTV’s “The Hills” and “Real World,” ABC’s “Castle” and “The Beautiful Life,” Lifetime, Oprah and The Bernie Mac Show.

Odds On Records is distributed by E1 Entertainment.

Look Who’s Been In Lately—Akon, T.I., Smash Mouth
Lead Singer Steve Harwell, Alicia Keys’ Engineer And
Famed Pop/Rocker Huey Lewis

Everything’s bigger, better and bolder in Las Vegas, but there’s more to the “Entertainment Capital of the World” than casinos, hotels, shops, condos and spectacular entertainment.

There’s also a massive recording scene going on, with state of the art Odds On Recording Studios leading the charge to make Vegas a premier destination to track and master everything from high end demos by budding hip-hoppers and rockers to the next platinum selling superstar album. Just ask hip-hop/rap superstar Akon, rapper T.I., Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell and pop/rocker Huey Lewis—they’ve all done sessions there this year. And recently, Alicia Keys’ engineer Ann Mincelli stopped in to mix a live track of “Superwoman” for the Women’s Basketball playoffs.

Already one of Vegas’ most popular facilities, Odds On is getting a $2 million plus, 7000 square foot makeover which adds a new mix room, a new 1,500-plus square foot tracking room, an SSL Duality Console (SSL’s newest super console) with 96 inputs and a remodeled client lounge with warm purple tones, beautiful artwork and metal sculptures, 2 vintage pinball machines, and—it’s Vegas, baby—a stripper pole.

The studio is rolling out the expansion in three unique phases, beginning with the opening in early December of the new large main studio room with the Duality Console and continuing with the rollout of a new mixing room, which will feature the studio’s 80-input SSL 9000K console. Designed specifically for writing, pre-production and editing, the revamped “C” room featuring a newly acquired SSL Matrix Console will open in early February, followed by the brand new mastering room later in the month.

Head of Audio Production and Development Bobby Ferrari says that besides the main rooms, Odds On Recording Studios has extra warehouse space that both control rooms are wired to. “So if you want to record in an acoustically wild cement warehouse area, you can just plug in and get a big concert hall, John Bonham sounding vibe with all the live reverb crunch you would expect in such a space.”

Odds On Recording Studios has also teamed up with microphone guru David Bock of Bock Audio to fully restore its large collection of vintage tube microphones, which include those by Neumann, AKG and Gefell and was once housed at legendary RPM Studios in New York.

“As microphones age,” Ferrari says, “the tubes and capsules wear out and need to be cleaned. David will be bringing them up to new standards and restore them to their full working condition. His work is a cut above the rest. His attention to detail is flawless, and his respect for returning the microphones to original working condition is astonishing. I have worked with David for many years and all of his mics from Soundelux to Bock Audio are the best on the market.”

To create what he calls “good juju” that most artists and engineers may not even be aware of when they first start working there, the team of Ferrari, three time Grammy winning mixer and engineer James “Bonzai” Caruso (Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Mary J. Blige) and storied multi-platinum engineer Sean O’Dwyer (Pink Floyd, Randy Newman, Blink-182) threw in a handful of legendary CDs when the concrete was poured for the “floating floors” of the new rooms. They included classics by Steely Dan, Frank Sinatra, The Carpenters and Outkast as well as AC/DC’s Back In Black and of course Sgt. Pepper.

“Both in hip-hop, rock and with the popularity of programs like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, we’re seeing an upswing by young musicians towards using more live instruments and musicians,” says Ferrari. “We wanted to expand Odds On Recording now to capitalize on this great resurgence and are committed to being part of the future of the music industry. The most exciting aspect of expanding our world class facility is that we will not only continue to attract superstar talent but also be able to cultivate new artists for our Odds On label in these very rooms. Bonzai, Sean and myself work together like a creative think tank. We all have different backgrounds and experiences, but the chemistry we have together makes for great recordings.

“The studio-label tie-in captures that classic big studio, boutique record label feel like A&M had in the 70s, where everyone is working on the same property. Combining this stunning array of new and vintage equipment along with a warm aesthetic that helps our clients get into their creative space while exciting the senses, Odds On Recording is on the cutting edge of what recording studios should be, not only in Las Vegas but around the world.”

ODDS ON DISC
CD & DVD MANUFACTURING

FULL SERVICE VEGAS BASED REPLICATION,
PACKAGING AND FULFILLMENT SOLUTIONS COMPANY
THRIVES AMIDST A BURGEONING MARKET CREATED BY INDEPENDENT ARTISTS AND MAJOR CORPORATIONS
* * *
Contrary To Dark Rumors That The CD Is On The Decline,
Odds On CFO Alex Romano Says,
“CDs Are More Popular Than Ever Because Music Is More Popular Than Ever”

The rise these past few years of digital downloads sites like iTunes and the proliferation of file sharing has given birth to a dark industry-wide rumor that truly qualifies as an easy to debunk urban legend: that, much to the dismay of audiophiles, recording artists and CD collectors, the CD format is on the wane.

According to Alex Romano, CFO of the thriving Las Vegas based Odds On Disc CD & DVD Manufacturing, (www.oddsonrecording.com) nothing could be further from the truth. “A recent article on the future of CDs in the industry magazine One To One confirms what our company has known all along—CDs are actually more popular than ever because on a global scale, music is more popular than ever,” he says. “Even with the advent of different ways of digital delivery, statistics show that overall, consumers prefer buying CDs over downloading music.

“For a few years now, there have been many articles written saying CDs are going out of fashion, but those aren’t taking the big picture into account,” Romano adds. According to Wes Nappi, VP of Sales and Marketing, “Digital downloads are definitely going up, but that includes the kinds that weren’t available a few years ago, like loading songs to cell phones. The large corporations may be losing CD sales in the current market but the lifeblood of the industry is the growing number of indie artists whose sales aren’t tracked by Soundscan. So while these conglomerates may be hurting, companies like ours are still able to thrive. One form of delivery doesn’t necessarily cannibalize the other…digital downloading is simply a complementary way of delivering music.”

In addition to independent bands, recording artists and labels from all over the world, Odds On Disc offers full service CD, DVD and DVD-HD replication, packaging and fulfillment solutions to a wide variety of non-musical clientele; these include film directors and producers as well as large corporations, who, among other things, disseminate DVD catalogs of their products to consumers and at trade shows.

Part of a new “mega complex” that is the first major facility of its kind capable of providing world class recording & mastering, Odds On Disc is located in a 25,000 sq foot building in Henderson, Nevada that has the capacity to turn out over two million discs per month. These orders can range from small 1,000-piece runs for bands looking to sell their CDs at gigs to half a million DVD units for companies with various optical media business needs; corporate video catalogs are especially appealing to companies wishing to “go green” by eliminating standard print catalogs.

Odds On’s CD and DVD Replication services include CD, DVD 5, DVD 9 and DVD 10, disc offset printing and disc screen printing. Its CD & DVD duplication services work from CD-R, CD+R, DVD-R and DVD+R; full color on disc printing and full packaging are available.

Standard packaging services includes CD jewel cases, DVD cases and Digi-Pak; there is also custom packaging available using innovative tools such as Photoshop, Director, Flash MX, Illustrator and Real Audio/Video to enhance and provide the client with the most creative and original web site today.

Odds On Disc also prides itself on first-rate customer service. Understanding the importance of client deadlines, its replication facilities operate 24/7 to expedite customer orders. The company’s team of quality control technicians pays close attention to all the details of the process using the finest test equipment to ensure an excellent quality product.

Romano stresses that while Odds On is best qualified to manufacture small and medium size runs (250,000 units or less), the company works favorably with both large corporate accounts as well as up and coming independent performers printing their very first recording: “The greatest part of our company is that there’s not one specific type of customer and we’re so flexible in what we offer to each client. We welcome walk in business as much as we love working with major companies who have been with us since we started.

“It’s also exciting to have the world class recording facility Odds On Studios and our newly launched label Odds On Records as part of our family of services,” he adds. “We’re thrilled to be involved producing a product that goes out onto the shelves and being part of that product’s success story.”

Sales manager Michael K. Roderick adds, “It’s a good vibe when you’ve got three separate companies in one, with the label and publishing, manufacturing and studio, because we’re always working with great, talented people in an exciting, action-packed creative atmosphere.”

Since launching in 2004, Odds On Recording Studios has had a steady clientele of great local performers including, hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon , Big ‘B’ , Greg Medoro , and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell who was in the studio this past week recording mixes for his forthcoming country/rock release in studio A.

As part of an incredible growth period that includes the construction of a new, larger live room, mix room, and new mastering room, Odds On has recruited two of the music industry’s most acclaimed engineers: Sean O’Dwyer and James “Bonzai” Caruso .
In addition to its growing studio, Odds On has a graphic arts department and a building dedicated to its full-service replication and CD/DVD manufacturing business.
Greg Medoro, who began his musical career as the singer, songwriter and guitarist of Rochester, New York’s highly sought after Mother Freedom Band, has reemerged in Las Vegas after many years with a new collection of emotionally charged songs entitled 14 Sunset Way. The album’s first single “Imagining You” is off to a hot start on the R & R AC ‘Most Added’ chart alongside such heavyweights as Nelly Fertado, Josh Groban, Bryan Adams and Van Morrison. 14 Sunset Way marks the first release from Las Vegas indie label Odds On Records, which will be distributed by Koch Entertainment Distribution.

14 Sunset Way is scheduled for brick and mortar release and on the internet on July 22nd. The album takes its name from the address of the facility where Medoro and Bobby Ferrari, Head of Production and A&R for Odds On Records, spent many fruitful months producing the culmination of Medoro’s full-fledged musical comeback, a process the artist likens to “finally thawing the frozen poet inside.” So far advance copies of the album have received very positive reviews. Jason Bracelin from the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote “With his soft-scrubbed voice backed by smoldering sax and soulful, Motown-style backing vocals, Medoro makes the kind of wistful soft rock where the passions rage like a house fire.”

Odds On Records is a full-service independent label and state of the art recording facility launched by prominent music industry veterans Ted Joseph, Harry Riggs, Robert “Bobby” Ferrari and Kekoa “Shakin” Quipotla.
THREE TIME GRAMMY WINNING PRODUCER/ENGINEER
JAMES “BONZAI” CARUSO
(MADONNA, STEPHEN MARLEY, GWEN STEFANI)
JOINS ODDS ON RECORDING STUDIOS AS
CHIEF AUDIO ENGINEER AND IN-HOUSE PRODUCER

Odds On Recording Studios is producing a rhythm to dance to in the music world as the studio welcomes the addition of Grammy Award winning engineer/producer James “Bonzai” Caruso as Chief Audio Engineer and In-House Producer. Caruso, who is an established icon of the NYC based recording scene, will be moving to Vegas later this spring to join the Odds On team starting July 1st. In addition to overseeing day-to-day production, “Bonzai” will also be available for artists at an additional fee.

James “Bonzai” Caruso is a three-time Grammy Award winner, whose most recent award was for his work with reggae icon Stephen Marley. Caruso’s mile-long list of credits as an engineer and mixer include work with today’s biggest names including Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliot. He has also done work with luminaries that include Cher, Notorious B.I.G., Miles Davis, and Diana Ross just to name a few.

Caruso recently became acquainted with Odds On Recording Studios while mixing LA “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound’s upcoming release at the facility. It was during this visit that Caruso met Bobby Ferrari, Odds On’s Head of Audio Production and Development. Ferrari and Bonzai made an almost instant connection and realized they had comparable ideas about the existing state of the music industry and the art in general. According to Ferrari “James is one of most prolific producers/engineers in the business, who has a real gift for articulating upon and realizing the ideas of artists in order to make outstanding music. I think his expertise will help make Odds On one of the top recording destinations in the world”

In addition to Caruso, veteran engineer Sean O’Dwyer will also be joining the Odds On team beginning May 1st. O’Dwyer has worked with everyone from Pink Floyd and Randy Newman to Blink-182 and Scott Grimes, and brings a wealth of experience on both the technical and creative side of audio production.

Odds On Recording Studios is going through an incredible growth period that includes the construction of a new, larger live room, mix room, and mastering room. Since launching in 2004, Odds On Recording Studios (www.oddsonrecording.com) has had a steady clientele of great local and national recording artists including hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon, Big ‘B’, Greg Medoro, and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell. Motown legend Mary Wilson recently did some work for Australia’s multi-platinum act Human Nature and hot L.A. “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound just wrapped up their debut album in the SSL mix room.

Great news for both veteran and up and coming musicians with a love for the desert–the intense expansion everyone’s talking about in Las Vegas these days isn’t just about casinos, hotels, shops and condos.

With state of the art facilities like Odds On Recording Studios (www.oddsonrecording.com) leading the charge, the city’s quickly becoming a premier destination to track, mix, and master everything from high-end demos by budding hip-hoppers and rockers to the next platinum selling superstar album. They’ve had a steady clientele of great local performers since launching in 2004, but word’s been getting out and the big names have started flocking. In recent months, hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon , Big ‘B’ , Greg Medoro , and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell have recorded there as well as Mowtown legend Mary Wilson for Australia’s multi-platinum act Human Nature. Hot L.A. “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound just wrapped up their debut album in the SSL mix room.

As part of an incredible growth period that includes the construction of a new, larger live room, mix room, and new mastering room, Odds On will be turning up the star wattage even higher in the coming months with the addition of two of the music industry’s most acclaimed engineers: James “Bonzai” Caruso and Sean O’Dwyer.

James “Bonzai” Caruso is a three-time Grammy Award winner, whose most recent award was for his work with reggae icon Stephen Marley. Caruso’s mile-long list of credits as an engineer and mixer include work with Alicia Keys , Gwen Stefani , Madonna , Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliot . Long established as an icon of the NYC based recording scene, he will be moving to Vegas later this spring and assuming his role of Chief Audio Engineer and In-House Producer for Odds On Studios July 1.

In addition to overseeing day-to-day production, “Bonzai” will also be available for artists at an additional fee. Odds On Head of Audio Production and Development Bobby Ferrari first met Caruso at the studio while he was mixing Ultraviolet Sound’s upcoming release. “We hit it off right away and had similar visions as to the current state of the art and the industry,” Ferrari says.

O’Dwyer, who has engineered for everyone from Pink Floyd and Randy Newman to Blink-182 and Scott Grimes, will start as Odds On’s main staff engineer on May 1. O’Dwyer brings a wealth of experience on the technical as well as creative side of audio production.

Yanchar Design and Consulting are the architects designing the three new studio rooms, with all details overseen by veteran architect and acoustician Carl Yanchar with Ferrari’s input as to layout and workflow. The plan is to go bigger, better and more efficient. While Odds On’s current main live room is 15×16, the new space will be 40×25 with 3 isolation booths. Tracking is currently done on an SSL -9000K console and monitors from legendary Ocean Way Studios. The new tracking room will be a relaxed musical vibe featuring an SSL Duality Console, and of course the Ocean Way monitoring system. The soon to be completed new mixing room will feature an 80-input SSL-9000K. All of the rooms boast an amazing array of vintage outboard gear and mics.

When Ferrari took over the studio and began plans for expansion last year, his first order of business was consulting Phil Wagner of SSL, Jeff Glixman of Star City Recording, and Allen Sides of Ocean Way Recording, all legends in the world of audio with their fingers on the pulse of the modern recording industry. “Their support and advice has been fantastic, this is knowledge you can’t get from a magazine article!” Ferrari says. Then Ferrari decided that quality had also become a big missing factor in audio production studios, and took an old school approach, “Great people make great records not just great gear,” he adds. “We made the decision to form a new staff that would have engineers with strong old school backgrounds, rather than just ‘Computer Guys’. Our ultimate goal is to generate content for our newly formed Odds On Record label, but also to accommodate the likes of a Kanye West or The Killers. Our clients will know they’re getting the best engineers in the world in addition to quality service. Our current B studio is perfect for young clients on limited budgets and has been great for up and coming hip-hop artists and bands doing demos. We will still have 2 of these more accessible “B” studios as well.

“One of the studios I had the joy of doing some work at when I lived in L.A. was Henson Studios (Formerly A&M),” Ferrari continues, “and I loved the vibe of having an upstart artist or group doing a demo in one room while The Rolling Stones were recording right down the hall. That kind of energy feeds off itself and the result is an environment that is pure musical magic.”

In addition to its growing studio, Odds On has, a graphic arts department and a building dedicated to its full-service replication and CD/DVD manufacturing business. The company can take on single artist replication jobs for orders around 1,000 units, but its focus is working with indie labels and movie houses to fulfill orders of 10,000-30,000+ discs.

“Our wide range of services means that we have the ability to be flexible and we are able to create a fresh attitude and growth in an industry that appears stunted at times,” says Ferrari. “The real challenge of making Odds On a great label in addition to a popular recording destination is taking the time to put the quality back in the music. We’re really excited about the artists we’re going to produce and develop here like ‘Lips Like Morphine’ (currently in production). We are developing a fun and creative environment that makes great music and money all at the same time.”
