The Recording world is starting to take notice of Odds On Recording Studios’ ( www.oddsonrecording.com ) musical oasis in the desert. Huey Lewis, from Huey Lewis and the News , was recently at Odds On Recording Studios doing dialogue for the upcoming film “Pocket Full of Soul” . The film is an ode to the harmonica and features well known musicians including Clint Black , James Cotton , Magic Dick (from the J. Geils Band), Taylor Hicks (from American Idol) and John Popper (from Blues Traveler).

Alicia Keys‘ Grammy winning engineer Ann Mincieli also recently came in to use Odds On Recording Studio’s SSL-9000K room to mix live tracks for Keys, who was performing at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Mincieli has been working with Alicia since 2000, and won a Grammy for  The Diary of Alicia Keys in 2005. Mincieli has also worked with Yoko Ono, Dru Hill and 98 Degrees.

Since launching in 2004, Odds On Recording Studios has had a steady clientele of great local performers including, hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon , Big ‘B’ , Greg Medoro , and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell who was in the studio this past week recording mixes for his forthcoming country/rock release in studio A.

O’Dwyer has worked with everyone from Pink Floyd and Randy Newman to Blink-182 and Scott Grimes , and brings a wealth of experience on both the technical and creative side of audio production.

In addition to its growing studio, Odds On has a graphic arts department and a building dedicated to its full-service replication and CD/DVD manufacturing business. Greg Medoro’s
debut single “Imagining You” is one of
R & R AC’s ‘Most Added’ singles this week alongside
heavyweights including Nelly Fertado,
Josh Groban, Bryan Adams and Van Morrison

Greg Medoro, who began his musical career as the singer, songwriter and guitarist of Rochester, New York’s highly sought after Mother Freedom Band, has reemerged in Las Vegas after many years with a new collection of emotionally charged songs entitled 14 Sunset Way. The album’s first single “Imagining You” is off to a hot start on the R & R AC ‘Most Added’ chart alongside such heavyweights as Nelly Fertado, Josh Groban, Bryan Adams and Van Morrison. 14 Sunset Way marks the first release from Las Vegas indie label Odds On Records, which will be distributed by Koch Entertainment Distribution.

14 Sunset Way is scheduled for brick and mortar release and on the internet on July 22nd. The album takes its name from the address of the facility where Medoro and Bobby Ferrari, Head of Production and A&R for Odds On Records, spent many fruitful months producing the culmination of Medoro’s full-fledged musical comeback, a process the artist likens to “finally thawing the frozen poet inside.” So far advance copies of the album have received very positive reviews. Jason Bracelin from the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote “With his soft-scrubbed voice backed by smoldering sax and soulful, Motown-style backing vocals, Medoro makes the kind of wistful soft rock where the passions rage like a house fire.”

Odds On Records is a full-service independent label and state of the art recording facility launched by prominent music industry veterans Ted Joseph, Harry Riggs, Robert “Bobby” Ferrari and Kekoa “Shakin” Quipotla. Odds On is currently working with all types of artists from various genres, releasing music CDs, live concert DVDs, and developing new talent as well as heritage acts with distribution by New York-based Koch Entertainment Distribution, currently the world’s fastest-growing independent music company.

THREE TIME GRAMMY WINNING PRODUCER/ENGINEER
JAMES “BONZAI” CARUSO
(MADONNA, STEPHEN MARLEY, GWEN STEFANI)
JOINS ODDS ON RECORDING STUDIOS AS
CHIEF AUDIO ENGINEER AND IN-HOUSE PRODUCER

Odds On Recording Studios is producing a rhythm to dance to in the music world as the studio welcomes the addition of Grammy Award winning engineer/producer James “Bonzai” Caruso as Chief Audio Engineer and In-House Producer. Caruso, who is an established icon of the NYC based recording scene, will be moving to Vegas later this spring to join the Odds On team starting July 1st. In addition to overseeing day-to-day production, “Bonzai” will also be available for artists at an additional fee.

James “Bonzai” Caruso is a three-time Grammy Award winner, whose most recent award was for his work with reggae icon Stephen Marley. Caruso’s mile-long list of credits as an engineer and mixer include work with today’s biggest names including Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliot. He has also done work with luminaries that include Cher, Notorious B.I.G., Miles Davis, and Diana Ross just to name a few.

Caruso recently became acquainted with Odds On Recording Studios while mixing LA “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound’s upcoming release at the facility. It was during this visit that Caruso met Bobby Ferrari, Odds On’s Head of Audio Production and Development. Ferrari and Bonzai made an almost instant connection and realized they had comparable ideas about the existing state of the music industry and the art in general. According to Ferrari “James is one of most prolific producers/engineers in the business, who has a real gift for articulating upon and realizing the ideas of artists in order to make outstanding music. I think his expertise will help make Odds On one of the top recording destinations in the world”

In addition to Caruso, veteran engineer Sean O’Dwyer will also be joining the Odds On team beginning May 1st. O’Dwyer has worked with everyone from Pink Floyd and Randy Newman to Blink-182 and Scott Grimes, and brings a wealth of experience on both the technical and creative side of audio production.

Odds On Recording Studios is going through an incredible growth period that includes the construction of a new, larger live room, mix room, and mastering room. Since launching in 2004, Odds On Recording Studios (www.oddsonrecording.com) has had a steady clientele of great local and national recording artists including hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon, Big ‘B’, Greg Medoro, and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell. Motown legend Mary Wilson recently did some work for Australia’s multi-platinum act Human Nature and hot L.A. “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound just wrapped up their debut album in the SSL mix room.

Great news for both veteran and up and coming musicians with a love for the desert–the intense expansion everyone’s talking about in Las Vegas these days isn’t just about casinos, hotels, shops and condos.

With state of the art facilities like Odds On Recording Studios (www.oddsonrecording.com) leading the charge, the city’s quickly becoming a premier destination to track, mix, and master everything from high-end demos by budding hip-hoppers and rockers to the next platinum selling superstar album. They’ve had a steady clientele of great local performers since launching in 2004, but word’s been getting out and the big names have started flocking. In recent months, hip-hop/R&B singer and rapper Akon , Big ‘B’ , Greg Medoro , and Smash Mouth lead singer Steve Harwell have recorded there as well as Mowtown legend Mary Wilson for Australia’s multi-platinum act Human Nature. Hot L.A. “buzz band” Ultraviolet Sound just wrapped up their debut album in the SSL mix room.

As part of an incredible growth period that includes the construction of a new, larger live room, mix room, and new mastering room, Odds On will be turning up the star wattage even higher in the coming months with the addition of two of the music industry’s most acclaimed engineers: James “Bonzai” Caruso and Sean O’Dwyer.

James “Bonzai” Caruso is a three-time Grammy Award winner, whose most recent award was for his work with reggae icon Stephen Marley. Caruso’s mile-long list of credits as an engineer and mixer include work with Alicia Keys , Gwen Stefani , Madonna , Mary J. Blige and Missy Elliot . Long established as an icon of the NYC based recording scene, he will be moving to Vegas later this spring and assuming his role of Chief Audio Engineer and In-House Producer for Odds On Studios July 1.

In addition to overseeing day-to-day production, “Bonzai” will also be available for artists at an additional fee. Odds On Head of Audio Production and Development Bobby Ferrari first met Caruso at the studio while he was mixing Ultraviolet Sound’s upcoming release. “We hit it off right away and had similar visions as to the current state of the art and the industry,” Ferrari says.

O’Dwyer, who has engineered for everyone from Pink Floyd and Randy Newman to Blink-182 and Scott Grimes, will start as Odds On’s main staff engineer on May 1. O’Dwyer brings a wealth of experience on the technical as well as creative side of audio production.

Yanchar Design and Consulting are the architects designing the three new studio rooms, with all details overseen by veteran architect and acoustician Carl Yanchar with Ferrari’s input as to layout and workflow. The plan is to go bigger, better and more efficient. While Odds On’s current main live room is 15×16, the new space will be 40×25 with 3 isolation booths. Tracking is currently done on an SSL -9000K console and monitors from legendary Ocean Way Studios. The new tracking room will be a relaxed musical vibe featuring an SSL Duality Console, and of course the Ocean Way monitoring system. The soon to be completed new mixing room will feature an 80-input SSL-9000K. All of the rooms boast an amazing array of vintage outboard gear and mics.

When Ferrari took over the studio and began plans for expansion last year, his first order of business was consulting Phil Wagner of SSL, Jeff Glixman of Star City Recording, and Allen Sides of Ocean Way Recording, all legends in the world of audio with their fingers on the pulse of the modern recording industry.  “Their support and advice has been fantastic, this is knowledge you can’t get from a magazine article!” Ferrari says. Then Ferrari decided that quality had also become a big missing factor in audio production studios, and took an old school approach, “Great people make great records not just great gear,” he adds. “We made the decision to form a new staff that would have engineers with strong old school backgrounds, rather than just ‘Computer Guys’. Our ultimate goal is to generate content for our newly formed Odds On Record label, but also to accommodate the likes of a Kanye West or The Killers. Our clients will know they’re getting the best engineers in the world in addition to quality service. Our current B studio is perfect for young clients on limited budgets and has been great for up and coming hip-hop artists and bands doing demos.  We will still have 2 of these more accessible “B” studios as well.

“One of the studios I had the joy of doing some work at when I lived in L.A. was Henson Studios (Formerly A&M),” Ferrari continues, “and I loved the vibe of having an upstart artist or group doing a demo in one room while The Rolling Stones were recording right down the hall. That kind of energy feeds off itself and the result is an environment that is pure musical magic.”

In addition to its growing studio, Odds On has, a graphic arts department and a building dedicated to its full-service replication and CD/DVD manufacturing business. The company can take on single artist replication jobs for orders around 1,000 units, but its focus is working with indie labels and movie houses to fulfill orders of 10,000-30,000+ discs.

“Our wide range of services means that we have the ability to be flexible and we are able to create a fresh attitude and growth in an industry that appears stunted at times,” says Ferrari. “The real challenge of making Odds On a great label in addition to a popular recording destination is taking the time to put the quality back in the music. We’re really excited about the artists we’re going to produce and develop here like ‘Lips Like Morphine’ (currently in production). We are developing a fun and creative environment that makes great music and money all at the same time.”
