OTTAWA – In support of the Canadian Cancer Society, Ottawa-based pop singer-songwriter Lola Spriggs (www.lolaspriggs.com) entertained audiences during a headlining appearance at the Lone Star Texas Grill on June 2. The event drew many fans and supporters who helped raise $2,500 for the organization. An opening set was performed by funk rock folk band Hippie Campfire.
Lola states, “The Canadian Cancer Society as always been a very important cause to me as cancer has touched my life quite significantly in the past, however having a close friend who is suffering with cancer at the moment has brought it even closer to my heart. I am so grateful that so many people came out to show support within our community.”
Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of its founding, the Canadian Cancer Society is a national community-based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.

The event, which will run from 2-5 p.m., will be held at The Lone Star Texas Grill, a 400+ seat venue located at 1211 Lemieux St. in Ottawa. Preceding Spriggs’ 90-minute set of covers and originals will be an opening set by funk rock folk bandHippie Campfire. Cover charge is $20 with proceeds benefitting the Canadian Cancer Society.

Lola’s highly anticipated release party will be held in partnership with Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada (National Capital Regional Chapter). The event kicks off at 7 p.m. Hors O’dourves will be passed from 7-8 p.m., followed by Spriggs’ 8 p.m. performance. Everyone in attendance will receive a gift bag. Navan’s own pop singer-songwriter Lola Spriggs shows her hometown pride and love for hockey as she returns to the Navan Memorial Centre to perform the Canadian National Anthem along with catchy, feel-good songs from her latest EP Nobody But You at Hockey Day in Navan on Sunday, February 27.
Kicking off at 9 a.m., the family-friendly event is a special occasion for Lola’s native Navan, as the town is in the running to compete as one of Kraft Hockeyville’s top Canadian communities to win a spot on the Canadian reality television series, Kraft Hockeyville 2011. CBC Television Network will head to the small town in Ontario to capture some of the many stories shared by Navan’s loyal hockey fans. The top 10 finalists, with two communities being chosen from the province of Ontario, will be announced on March 8 at 9 p.m. Eastern on CBC.
If Navan garners enough votes, the community will also be rewarded with $100,000 dedicated to upgrading the local home arena, a Hockey Night in Canada local broadcast, and an NHL pre-season game hosted in their community arena.
Lola previously took the stage at Navan’s 150th Anniversary celebration on January 9 where she generously donated all CD sales from the day to a local special needs family. The hometown hero is also set to perform at the Girls’ Night Out event for the ladies of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club on February 24.

Lola urged all of those in attendance to “vote for Navan” in the competition in porous support of her hometown. In addition, the local celeb donated the proceeds from albums sold to a local family in need.
