London, Whose Hit Show “Greg London’s Icons” Is Extended At Harrah’s Reno Re-opens on March 1st, Previously Hit FMQB’s AC40 Chart and R&R’s AC Chart With “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”
It’s a chilly February up in Northern Nevada, where “Greg London’s Icons” was extended at Harrah’s Reno by popular demand, but the master musical impressionist (www.gregorylondon.com) continues to keep warm in the glow of his budding success as a pop star.
London’s heartfelt, emotionally compelling cover of “Everything I Own,” the David Gates song that was originally a hit for the soft rock group Bread in 1972, is off to a rousing start at adult contemporary radio, taking a quantum leap this week from #94 to #45 on the FMQB AC40 Chart.
As the track steams into the Top 40 (most likely next week!), a few exciting stats bear mention: a +156 spin increase from the previous week and 14 adds for the #2 Most Added spot between the Ballas Hough Band (comprised of Dancing With The Stars performers Mark Ballas and Derek Hough) and Lionel Richie.
The multi-talented singer, songwriter and performer set the stage for his breakthrough as a pop artist during the 2008 holiday season, when his intimate rendition of the classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” was the #2 most added track on FMQB‘s AC40 Chart and Radio & Records’ (R&R) AC Chart during the same week.
“Everything I Own” features background vocals and guitar contributions by ICONS Musical Director David Zeman of The Rembrandts/Gin Blossoms, who also mixed the track. The track includes famed session singers Arnold McCuller and Kate Markowitz on backing vocals and Vern Monnett, who plays electric guitar for Black Sabbath, Gary Allen and Freddy Fender, on the slide guitar.
London and Zeman are currently working on London’s new version of another 70s classic, Little River Band‘s “Cool Change,” which will be the title track for his soon to be released full length album Greg London: A Cool Change.
“Greg London’s Icons” is now one of the longest running shows ever in Sammy’s Showroom at Harrah’s Reno. Over the years, those who have graced the stage in the historical venue include Aretha Franklin, Patti Page, Rosemary Clooney, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Cosby, Andy Williams, Dionne Warwick, Bill Maher, Don Rickles, Natalie Cole, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn.
After a brief hiatus, London will resume his “Icons” performances at Harrah’s on March 1. Greg London’s “Everything I Own” Gets an “Added” Spark
There’s no denying that in his popular stage show “Greg London’s Icons” at Harrah’s Reno that artists such as Buddy Holly, Rod Stewart, Bruce Springsteen, Barry Manilow, Tina Turner and others are the “meat and potatoes” of the master musical impressionist’s act.
But, since adding some Bread to his plate, London’s career has taken on a whole new “pop” – his heartfelt emotionally compelling cover of the David Gates song “Everything I Own” is hitting the charts and is #1 Most Added at ACQB (FMQB), pulling first week national AC Most Added Honors for new songs; #4 Most Added Mediabase AC, and #6 Most Added Radio & Records AC. Very happily, it has served to give London a voice in the recording arena – his own.
It is London’s and only London’s voice that is heard on the song that was originally a hit for the soft rock group Bread back in 1972. While his show at Harrah’s Reno has been extended through August 2010 by popular demand, London set the stage for his breakthrough as a pop artist during the 2008 holiday season, when his intimate rendition of the classic “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” was the #2 most added track on FMQB’s AC40 Chart and Radio & Records’ (R&R) AC Chart during the same week.
With “Everything I Own,” London is in some thrilling company alongside other classic artists who have recorded the song — Olivia Newton-John, Georgie Fame, Boy George, ‘N Sync, Jude, Rod Stewart and Chrissie Hynde, among others. While most times it is interpreted as a love song, “Everything I Own” is actually Gates’ tribute to his father, which he wrote upon his father’s death.
