Contrary To Dark Rumors That The CD Is On The Decline,
Odds On CFO Alex Romano Says,
“CDs Are More Popular Than Ever Because Music Is More Popular Than Ever”

The rise these past few years of digital downloads sites like iTunes and the proliferation of file sharing has given birth to a dark industry-wide rumor that truly qualifies as an easy to debunk urban legend: that, much to the dismay of audiophiles, recording artists and CD collectors, the CD format is on the wane.

According to Alex Romano, CFO of the thriving Las Vegas based Odds On Disc CD & DVD Manufacturing, (www.oddsonrecording.com) nothing could be further from the truth. “A recent article on the future of CDs in the industry magazine One To One confirms what our company has known all along—CDs are actually more popular than ever because on a global scale, music is more popular than ever,” he says. “Even with the advent of different ways of digital delivery, statistics show that overall, consumers prefer buying CDs over downloading music.

“For a few years now, there have been many articles written saying CDs are going out of fashion, but those aren’t taking the big picture into account,” Romano adds. According to Wes Nappi, VP of Sales and Marketing, “Digital downloads are definitely going up, but that includes the kinds that weren’t available a few years ago, like loading songs to cell phones. The large corporations may be losing CD sales in the current market but the lifeblood of the industry is the growing number of indie artists whose sales aren’t tracked by Soundscan. So while these conglomerates may be hurting, companies like ours are still able to thrive. One form of delivery doesn’t necessarily cannibalize the other…digital downloading is simply a complementary way of delivering music.”

In addition to independent bands, recording artists and labels from all over the world, Odds On Disc offers full service CD, DVD and DVD-HD replication, packaging and fulfillment solutions to a wide variety of non-musical clientele; these include film directors and producers as well as large corporations, who, among other things, disseminate DVD catalogs of their products to consumers and at trade shows.

Part of a new “mega complex” that is the first major facility of its kind capable of providing world class recording & mastering, Odds On Disc is located in a 25,000 sq foot building in Henderson, Nevada that has the capacity to turn out over two million discs per month. These orders can range from small 1,000-piece runs for bands looking to sell their CDs at gigs to half a million DVD units for companies with various optical media business needs; corporate video catalogs are especially appealing to companies wishing to “go green” by eliminating standard print catalogs.

Odds On’s CD and DVD Replication services include CD, DVD 5, DVD 9 and DVD 10, disc offset printing and disc screen printing. Its CD & DVD duplication services work from CD-R, CD+R, DVD-R and DVD+R; full color on disc printing and full packaging are available.

Standard packaging services includes CD jewel cases, DVD cases and Digi-Pak; there is also custom packaging available using innovative tools such as Photoshop, Director, Flash MX, Illustrator and Real Audio/Video to enhance and provide the client with the most creative and original web site today.

Odds On Disc also prides itself on first-rate customer service. Understanding the importance of client deadlines, its replication facilities operate 24/7 to expedite customer orders. The company’s team of quality control technicians pays close attention to all the details of the process using the finest test equipment to ensure an excellent quality product.

Romano stresses that while Odds On is best qualified to manufacture small and medium size runs (250,000 units or less), the company works favorably with both large corporate accounts as well as up and coming independent performers printing their very first recording: “The greatest part of our company is that there’s not one specific type of customer and we’re so flexible in what we offer to each client. We welcome walk in business as much as we love working with major companies who have been with us since we started.

“It’s also exciting to have the world class recording facility Odds On Studios and our newly launched label Odds On Records as part of our family of services,” he adds. “We’re thrilled to be involved producing a product that goes out onto the shelves and being part of that product’s success story.”

Sales manager Michael K. Roderick adds, “It’s a good vibe when you’ve got three separate companies in one, with the label and publishing, manufacturing and studio, because we’re always working with great, talented people in an exciting, action-packed creative atmosphere.”
