ONE-EYED DOLL WINS BEST PUNK BAND AND BEST GOTH BAND
The Duo Rocked Out At Multiple Appearances For SXSW Austin punk duo One-Eyed Doll (OED) won big at the 2011 Austin Music Awards while at South By Southwest (SXSW), the largest annual music and media festival in the U.S. For the third consecutive year, the rockers took home the honor of Best Punk Band. In addition, OED unexpectedly garnered another trophy, winning again in the category for Best Goth Band. The band was nominated for 17 different categories including Best Guitarist, Best Drummer, Album of the Year (Break) and Song of the Year (“Beautiful Freak“). Back on their home turf, OED played four SXSW showcases and lit up two of the city’s morning TV stations with their captivating acoustic performances—beating out thousands of other band submissions for their first stop on Austin Fox 7‘s Good Day Austin segment and again, just two days later, on KXAN-TV for the station’s Noon Show. In light of the recent tragedy in Japan, OED is also supporting the cause with the release of their single “Water Song.” 100% of the proceeds will benefit relief efforts. The track was originally meant to be included on Freeman’s new solo project, however, she felt it necessary to release it with positive intentions for their Japanese fans. In mainstream news, Freeman has recently graced the inside cover of Revolver magazine for the January/February 2011 issue, which named her one of the “Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock.” This month, she is featured in Guitar Player’s April 2011 issue, highlighting her talent as a female in hard rock and her electric guitar playing ability. Freeman’s talent, paired with Sewell’s creative production skills, prompted legendary Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down, Prince) to work with the band on their next LP, slated for a late 2011 release. |
