Highlights Of Their June-July Asian-Israeli Jaunt Include
Dinner With Imelda Marcos, Performing For The
King And Queen of Malaysia And
Performing On Israel’s Version Of “Dancing With The Stars”

Nearly 30 years after Air Supply (www.airsupplymusic.com) first charmed the world with their ultra-romantic hit parade (“All Out Of Love,” “Lost In Love,” “The One That You Love,” “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” etc), the continuously globetrotting duo of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock are happy to discover an exciting truth: there are still new spots on the map to conquer and a never ending flow of new fans to inspire with their live performances.
Beyond their always exhilarating shows, their latest jaunt overseas (from early June through mid-July) had its share of transcendent, once in a lifetime moments. They had dinner with former Philippines First Lady Imelda Marcos; performed for the King and Queen of Malaysia; and had drinks with the U.S. ambassador to Singapore and her husband.
Air Supply also got to play a concert in the venue (Areneta Coliseum) where “The Thrilla In Manila”—the legendary 1975 boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier—took place. Later, after their first ever performance in Tel Aviv, they enjoyed the sacred dual experience of visiting the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and appearing on Israel’s version of “Dancing With The Stars”!
Air Supply’s tour first brought them back to Asia for the first time in several years, where they played six cities in the Philippines, including a few they had never hit before: Cebu, Davao and Ilo Ilo. Right after they left, there was a major hurricane that left one of the venues they had just performed at underwater.
“We’re always dodging hurricanes,” says Hitchcock, referring to their July 2005 concert for 175,000 in Havana just before Hurricane Dennis swept ashore; at the time, Graham Russell offered evacuees an impromptu acoustic show in the ballroom of Hotel De Nacional.
From the Philippines, it was on to rock and romance their fans in Singapore, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Taiwan and Bangkok before heading for the first time to Israel, where Russell and Hitchcock were mobbed by fans and press almost every moment they were not performing.
“Everyone was asking why we had never come to Israel before,” Hitchcock says, “and the reason is very simple: we had never been invited! We got to play two shows in Tel Aviv, the first of which was at the Shunni Fortress, an ancient Roman amphitheatre discovered in 1986. Both shows were sold out and we had a blast. We were also able to visit Jerusalem, where we visited many Christian holy sites and later, the Wailing Wall. I’m not a very religious person, but I put in a prayer anyway! It was a wild experience.”
After touring those sacred spots, the duo had the unique opportunity to perform “All Out Of Love” on a segment of “Dancing With The Stars,” which features contestants who are Israeli TV and sports stars.
Next up, Air Supply will be finishing their summer with a large handful of U.S. dates (everywhere from Biloxi, Mississippi to Oklahoma and New York) and will hit Brazil again in the fall.
“It’s always exciting for us to play for new audiences and have these extra-musical adventures that most people never have the chance to experience,” adds Hitchcock. “After all these years, we love when the fans are having fun at our shows and are touched by our music. That’s the whole reason we’re out there.”

GRAHAM RUSSELL

THE TALL, BLOND HALF OF POP SUPERDUO
AIR SUPPLY WILL DEBUT HIS NEW CHILDREN’S
MUSICAL ‘PETALBUMP’ OCTOBER 27-30 (31st) IN
SALT LAKE CITY, TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE PUBLICATION
OF TWO VERSIONS OF AN ACCOMPANYING STORYBOOK IN 2009
* * *
AIR SUPPLY, WHICH JUST RELEASED ‘FREE LOVE,’
ITS DEBUT ALBUM ON VAGRANT RECORDS,
IS TOURING THIS SUMMER IN ASIA, ISRAEL,
SOUTH AMERICA AND THE U.S.

Even as he travels the globe on tour again this summer with Russell Hitchcock, the other half of his famed 80s hitmaking duo Air Supply, singer/songwriter Graham Russell is looking forward to the fall debut of “Petalbump,” his exciting new children’s musical that features six new songs, 30 cast members (all but two of whom are children), an incredible light show, a full orchestra and performers from the children’s dance company Vibe.

The world premiere of “Petalbump” is scheduled to run for five shows October 27-31 at The Rose Wagner Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 500-seat opera house is located at 138 W. Broadway. Russell envisions these performances as the first of many different productions of his show that will take place in various cities throughout the U.S.

Originally conceived as a ballet, Petalbump has been refashioned to also include elements of hip-hop, ballroom and other styles of dancing. Two of the participating dancers from Vibe recently won the national title for Under-14 Ballroom Dancing on ABC-TV’s “Dancing With The Stars.” Russell co-wrote some of the classically oriented music for the show with Jed Moss, longtime keyboardist with Air Supply who is also a concert pianist with the Utah Symphony and Ballet West.

In conjunction with the live stage show, Russell is also currently working on two versions of an accompanying storybook for “Petalbump.” The first will be a picture book for young children, with the story told in installments; it will feature beautiful artwork by up and coming San Francisco based illustrator David Habben. The second will be a version for older children up to 12 years of age. He is currently shopping for the right publisher and expects these to be published in late 2008 or early 2009.

“Petalbump’s” narrative revolves around a woman in her 30s returning to her childhood home and entering a fantasy world as a ten year old with the help of a lead fairy named Petalbump. Her childhood was cut short by the death of her parents, and as she packs up her house while preparing to sell it, she uncovers artifacts from her youth that lead her through a magic door into an idyllic world that has been waiting many years for her return. Ultimately, she decides not to sell her house.

“I really love everything about this show, from the marriage of the music and the dance element to the uplifting theme,” says Russell. “It’s a project that’s unique from any other I have worked on in my career. The story is essentially about believing in yourself. If you stop, the whole world falls apart.”

Air Supply, which just released their new album Free Love, is touring extensively this summer in Asia, Israel, South America and North America. The duo’s six week Asian tour, which began in early June, hits China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Bangkok. After several shows in Israel, they head to Buenos Aires and Chile before returning later in the summer to do a series of shows in the U.S.

Next Up For The Band—Which Promises To Release Their
Next Disc, A Concept Album, By Next March—Are Stops
In Ireland, England, Germany and Italy Before A Jaunt
To Rio De Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil In January 2008

With apologies to the late, great James Brown, the hardest working person in show business continues to be… Air Supply‘s travel agent! Russell Hitchcock , who with his partner Graham Russell ruled the Top 40 airwaves throughout the early to mid-80s with their timeless romantic hits “Lost In Love,” “All Out Of Love,” “The One That You Love” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” enjoys joking that “We started this tour in 1976…and never stopped!”

2007 has been a particularly frenetic year for the globetrotting duo. Stateside, in addition to their annual stops at The Orleans in Las Vegas and North Fork Theatre in Westbury, Long Island, they hit numerous Indian reservation casinos across the country. Massively popular throughout Latin America and Asia, they also performed for thousands in Mexico, Japan (doing 16 fall shows in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka) and Macau, one of two special administrative regions of the People’s Republic of China, which is 37 miles southwest of Hong Kong.

Air Supply also played in South Africa for the first time in 23 years, headlining two shows each in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Most of their tour stops are pure joy fests for Russell, Hitchcock and their three other band members, but their gig in the 3,000-seat showroom at the Johannesburg’s Carnival City casino proved slightly harrowing, after the fact. Ten minutes after they left the building, 16 men in ski masks with AK-47s stormed in and held up the casino. The casino was locked down till five a.m. the next morning, four people were shot and the papers reported that the thieves got away with “an undisclosed amount of cash.”

This wasn’t the first time Air Supply flirted with disaster. In July, 2005, Hurricane Dennis barreled into Havana just after they performed for 175,000 ecstatic fans during their first official visit to Cuba’s capital city. Their second night was canceled and they were grounded an additional 24 hours while the storm blew through. Graham Russell treated hundreds of local evacuees to an impromptu mini-concert in the ballroom of the Hotel De Nacional.

Having just completed their Asian swing in the fall, the duo heads for dates in Ireland, England, Germany and Italy as they gear up for a handful of January, 2008 dates in Rio De Janeiro, Sao Paulo and other cities in Brazil.

Air Supply followed up its 2005 Live CD/DVD anniversary release It Was 30 Years Ago Today with the 2006 release of the band’s first all-acoustic recording The Singer and The Song .

Russell has been opening many of their shows with acoustic renditions of several songs from his first ever solo CD, 2007′s The Future . Hitchcock promises that the next Air Supply recording—a “concept album” currently in progress—will be completed soon and ready to release in March, 2008.

“The other night, when we were doing an interview for a magazine in Macau, it hit me that it’s quite an achievement to be playing with the same partner for 33 years,” says Hitchcock. “Not many bands have been around this long, and we’re very proud of all we’ve accomplished and excited that we still have the opportunity to share our music with so many people around the world. Folks in Asia tell us that they’ve learned English from singing our songs, and we love to hear things like that. Traveling can be exhausting, but everything’s fine the minute we hit the stage and start sharing our music with the audience.”

AIR SUPPLY Goes Acoustic For The First Time Ever With ‘The Singer and The Song’

After Making New CD/DVD Package Available To
“Airheads” Only, 80′s Pop Hitmaking Duo Releases
It To The General Public Via www.airsupplymusic.com

Acoustic Project follows successful release of ‘It Was 30 Years Ago Today,’ Their Second Live CD and Very First Live DVD Recording, Which Celebrated Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock’s Three Decade Partnership

Truly living out the lyrics to their 1982 pop classic “Sweet Dreams,” Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock—principals in the famed 80′s hit-making duo Air Supply—celebrated their 30 year partnership in 2005 with a couple of exciting firsts. Earlier in the year, they released ‘It Was 30 Years Ago Today,” their first live DVD Recording, to great acclaim. They are currently capping that off with The Singer and The Song , Air Supply’s very first all-acoustic project.

Russell and Hitchcock originally made the exclusive recording available only to “Airheads,” their affectionate term for their legions of fans worldwide. Now, it’s available to the general public via their website www.airsupplymusic.com . The Singer and The Song features the duo’s familiar cavalcade of hits (including “All Out of Love,” “Lost In Love “The One That You Love” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”) done as vocal-guitar duets, recorded in one take each with no overdubs.

The collection also features “Yours Truly,” their popular crowd-pleasing song from their 2000 album of the same name, and “Love and Other Bruises,” Air Supply’s first big Australian hit from the late 70s.

The project came together very spontaneously one day last August, when Hitchcock was up in Park City, Utah (where Russell lives) and the two performed with the Utah Symphony at Deer Valley Resort. “We had never done an acoustic record before, and one afternoon we just said, ‘Why not? Let’s do it,’” says Russell. “The next day, we gathered around a microphone in my studio with my guitar and our two voices. We did all twelve tracks in one afternoon. The charm of the whole project was the spontaneity. With most projects, we talk about it and plan everything, but this time was more exciting because we had no idea what to expect.

“We titled it after what it was, The Singer and The Song, because that’s exactly what the album is, just the songs, presented live and organically,” he adds. “It’s raw, but there is a beautiful serenity to it as well.”

Inspired by the success of their just-released live DVD recording, Russell and Hitchcock thought it would be fun to give their fans a visual chronicle of the special day in the studio, so they called a friend of theirs to film four tracks in High Definition video. The resulting DVD is included in the packaging of the album.

In addition to these two new CD/DVD releases, Air Supply kept up their breakneck touring pace in 2005, performing numerous shows in the U.S., Mexico and a memorable “street scene” concert for 175,000 fans in Havana, Cuba just before the onslaught of Hurricane Dennis in July. Trapped for a few days at the Hotel Nacional, Russell performed an impromptu acoustic concert for storm evacuees in the ballroom.

Now, with the release of The Singer and The Song, “Airheads” worldwide can hear this famed duo present their hits in this unique and intimate way.
