To paraphrase one of the timeless classics of his musical hero Frank Sinatra, Doug Ferony’s “got the world on a string,” bringing a cool freshness as he swings through the music of Sinatra and The Rat Pack at over 120 shows per year across the U.S.

The distinguished singer and charismatic entertainer (www.dougferony.com), whom jazz critic Scott Yanow recently called “one of the more enjoyable and musical crooners of the 21st Century,” is bringing his retro-styled magic to the Triad Theatre in his adopted hometown of New York City Saturday, September 29 as part of a double bill of two Off Broadway shows including “Beatlemania Again.”

Ferony will be singing the trademark Sinatra and Rat Pack style songs that have defined his expansive career as a performer, including Sinatra’s “It Had To Be You” and “Come Fly With Me”; Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore” and “Volare,”; “The Girl From Ipanema”; and Bobby Darin favorites “BEYOND THE SEA” and “Mack The Knife.” The show will feature the singer’s six piece orchestra, which includes tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass and drums.

General admission tickets are $15 and premium tickets are $25. The Triad is located at 158 W. 72nd St. (between Broadway and Columbus Avenue) on the 2nd Floor. The 24/7 Ticket Hotline is 1-800-838-3006.

“I’ve done the dual show with ‘Beatlemania Again’ many times,” Ferony says, “and it really presents a nice variety of music that represents the late ‘50s and two different musical aspects of the ‘60s. It’s a whole era of music in which my show complements theirs and vice versa.”

Ferony’s set at the Triad kicks off a run of 3 fall dates that include Franklin Pa. (November 3 at Barrow Civic Theatre); Hackensack, N.J. (November 9 at Maggiano’s Little Italy); Fairfield, Conn. (November 10 at St. Thomas Aquinas);

In January 2013, he heads out for the fourth time on the All-Star Polka Cruise with 18-time Grammy winner Jimmy Sturr, with whom Ferony has also performed at the RFD Theater in Branson, Missouri; their performances will air this Fall on RFD TV the Dish Network and Direct TV.

Ferony’s diverse career in the entertainment industry includes a successful dual career as an actor in many high profile feature films and TV shows. Over the years he has appeared in Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” (playing the head waiter at the Copacabana), “Back To School,” “Spiderman 2,” “The Brave One,” “Inside Man,” “Law and Order: SVU” and “The Sopranos.”

As a recording artist, Ferony has released 10 full length CDs featuring an array of cover songs from many genres, in addition to the occasional self-penned original. He made his debut with Going in Style on Rainbo Records in 1991, and his most recent collection, You Will Be My Music, released in 2011 on FE Records. He has worked with several high profile arrangers over the years, including Clark Gault (Moody Blues, Temptations), Khadafy Khan (Wynton Marsalis, Whitney Houston) and Paul Swain (Jackie Gleason Show).

The tracking on his latest recording typifies the diversity of his recordings; alongside standards like “Fly Me to The Moon” and “Come Fly With Me” are the early ‘70s pop chestnuts “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday.” Scott Yanow’s review said: “As was evident on his first eight CDs, he loves performing high quality standards, has a warm voice, swings easily and enthusiastically and, while fond of the singing of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and other top-notch vocalists, has a sound of his own.”

Ferony’s lifelong passion for Sinatra style music includes the moment at age seven when he first heard “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” on one of his parents’ albums—and extends to having the opportunity to see Ol’ Blue Eyes and his fellow Rat Packer Sammy Davis Jr. perform at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, one of 14 Sinatra concerts Ferony attended over the years. Inspired by Buddy Rich, Ferony played drums for a time during his childhood, but by the time he was in high school, he was focused on a career in singing.

In 1985, Ferony moved to Los Angeles where he studied voice with Howard Austin and started gigging while also attending acting school and beginning to work in films. He moved back to New York in the late ‘80s to develop his multiple talents as a performer in musicals like “Kiss Me Kate,” Evita,” LiL Abner”1776” then moved to San Diego for a time before spending much of the 1990s back in New York. He fondly remembers performing three nights a week with a trio at the World Trade Center during 1995-96, singing regularly at the Supper Club with his big band, and with a piano duo at Tavern on the Green.

Ferony currently performs across the country at supper clubs, casinos, racetracks, cruises and concerts, and he recently worked a show at the Paramount Center for the Arts with veteran singer Al Martino. Some of Doug’s performances include the Westchester Country Club, Empire City/Yonkers Raceway, The Village Gate, The Arthur Ashe US Open, Harrah’s & Show Boat Casino’s in Atlantic City and on the Las Vegas Strip at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino. Earlier this year, he performed on a cruise around Manhattan hosted by Geraldo Rivera, which was a fundraiser for Open Gate—which operates a non-profit, non-sectarian residential and day program for individuals who are developmentally disabled, including those who are behaviorally challenged.

“What I truly enjoy most is performing in front of people and making them smile and sing along with me,” says Ferony. “I love making them happy and helping them forget their problems, feel good and laugh for a little while. I look forward to sharing a little of that at The Triad and at my other shows this fall and in the future.”
