Colorful Book/CD package, distributed by Alfred Publishing Co.,

follows groundbreaking 2004 releases Girls Guitar Method, Vols. 1 & 2

Aspiring girl rockers of the world, get ready to rejoice again! Tish Ciravolo , founder and president of the ongoing Daisy Rock Girl Guitars phenomenon, helps you set aside your phobias of male dominated instruments with the publication of Girl’s Bass Method , the first complete bass method written especially for girls.

Released by world renowned music education giant Alfred Publishing and packaged with a CD for easy playalong, the colorful 9 x 12” 48 page volume—a follow-up to Ciravolo’s 2004 bestselling releases, Girl’s Guitar Method , Volumes 1 & 2– teaches from a female perspective, with a style and design addressing the interests of today’s young women.

Created with the idea of inspiring and empowering young girls to play, this unique “girlification” of the standard educational bass method covers a wide range of instructional topics, from simple concepts (how to pick up the bass, how to hold it, how to sit down with it) and basic theory to right and left hand positioning, tuning, reading music (notes, time signatures), counting time, and how to play with either a pick or one’s fingers. The author includes photo illustrations girls of all ages can relate to, including shots of fingers on frets with long fingernails!

“A lot of girls grow up like I did, attracted to the guitar or bass but not able to see it as a viable option as a performer,” says Ciravolo, who has played bass with numerous L.A. bands over the years, including her latest ensemble s ASSafrASS . “They buy a bass in the store, get home and say, okay, now what? Girl’s Bass Method answers that need by showing them that it’s easy to learn. The end goal of these books and Daisy Rock Guitars is helping even the playing field in rock and roll by getting more women out there playing. When my daughters, Nicole (age 6), and Sophia (4) grow up, I want them to live in a musical world where female guitarists and bassists are the norm.”

Chief among Ciravolo’s bass influences are Simon Gallup of The Cure, Tim Butler of The Psychedelic Furs, Kathy Valentine of the Go-Go’s and, going further back, Suzi Quatro as Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days. Valentine and Quatro are among the classic female rockers who give inspirational testimonials throughout Girl’s Bass Method, eloquently explaining their initial attraction to and ongoing relationship with the bass. Others include Melissa Auf der Maur (of Hole and Smashing Pumpkins) and Maya Ford (of The Donnas).

Ciravolo’s celebrity associations extend to her “day gig” as Founder and President of Daisy Rock Guitars, the world’s first and only girl guitar company. Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson have an endorsement deal with the company, Hilary Duff plays a Heartbreaker, and various other models are currently popular with artists as diverse as Share Ross (Bubble), Nina Hagen, Annie Minogue, Lisa Loeb, Lindsay Lohan, Wanda Jackson, L.A. all-girl-band Auburn Court, and Ella Hooper (Killing Heidi). While the colors and body styles are designed with girl power in mind, the list of well known guy musicians who play them is growing–The Cure’s Robert Smith, Adam Levy (Norah Jones), and Paul Leary (Butthole Surfers), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), etc.

“I really love the idea of young girls taking up the guitar and bass because of my designs, both in body and color,” says Ciravolo. “ Girl’s Bass Method is simply the latest way I can encourage them to gain more self esteem and say, if she can do it, why not me?”

The Girl’s Bass Method book and CD package retails for $14.95.
