DR. DINA – WHO INSPIRED THE ICONIC ‘NANCY BOTWIN’ FROM THE HIT SHOW ‘WEEDS’ APPEARS ON GOOD DAY LA / FOX 11 TO DISCUSS HER MEDICAL MARIJUANA MOVEMENT

LOS ANGELES — Dr. Dina, a pioneer of the medical marijuana movement and beloved consultant to hundreds of Hollywood celebs, appeared on Good Day LA / FOX11 today alongside Legal Analyst Robin Sax and co-anchor Tony McEwing; click here to view the video and full story.

The name Dr. Dina was coined by Snoop Lion (a/k/a Snoop Dog), her close friend of over 20 years who gave her the nickname “Dr. Dina” after she opened Southern California’s first medical marijuana doctor’s office in 2003.

Since then, she has consulted with over three dozen non-profit Medical Marijuana Dispensaries inCaliforniaColorado and Oregon. Moreover, she consults with the City of West Hollywood andLos Angeles to help safely regulate the business.

Dr. Dina also received a prominent mention she received (an inadvertent “outing”) in the January 2013 GQ article on Snoop entitled “The Lion Smokes Tonight” (www.gq.com/entertainment/music/201301/snoop-lion-snoop-dogg-profile-gq-january-2013).

In the article, Dr. Dina is identified as “a thin brunette who has the whole Nancy Botwin look down cold,” a reference to Mary-Louise Parker on ”Weeds.” But that’s not even the half of it – the character Nancy Botwin was inspired by Dr. Dina, a 90-pound Jewish girl from Tarzana who had direct contact with creative personnel on the show during development. And the similarities between the two women go far beyond their looks.

After a decade of experiences and inspiring a hit television show, Dr. Dina is now sharing her intriguing story in hopes to correct many misconceptions created from the show and which otherwise exist, while showing the softer side of the medical marijuana business and transforming the public’s understanding of this important social issue.
